Boiler Solutions for Low NOx

March 12th, 2010

Given rising fuel prices and the ever growing concern over not having enough power, products such as boilers increase in significance in North American industrial applications. According to Frost & Sullivan, this trend propels growth in the replacement and retrofit market for boilers as those who utilize industrial boilers have to wrangle with the high energy costs of older boilers and are encouraged to replace this equipment with new and more efficient industrial boilers. The more efficient the boiler is the more money the user stand to save. Also, more efficient boiler often better protects the environment.

Natural gas is the cleanest of the fossil fuels. Natural gas is made up of mostly methane, the main products of the combustion of natural gas are carbon dioxide and water vapor, identical to what we as humans exhale when breathing. Coal and oil are have a lot more complex molecules, with a heightened carbon ratio and higher nitrogen and sulfur contents. This means more harmful emissions, including a higher ratio of carbon emissions, nitrogen oxides (NOx), and sulfur dioxide (SO2).

“Significant improvements in productivity and resilient consumer spending are key aspects of the economic recovery in North America.” Analysts said the potential for economic growth increases when change occurs in energy prices, productivity gains and global economic stability.

The market is currently experiencing an expanding demand for modular boilers. Modular boilers can benefit organizations using industrial boilers. Some areas where the benefits can be seen are first in the terms of convenience, lowered redundancy and the bottom line. Analysts said the demand creates a low margin, high volume business. This is partly driven by end-users who often do not want to rely on just one unit in their facilities. Smaller units should grow in size to meet bigger demands. Additionally NOx emission control is important just about every state in the United States. Low NOx burners have been available since the 1970’s, and a number of equipment manufacturers provide low NOx burners to the boiler industry.

Despite several positive trends, the increasing migration of manufacturing from North America restrains market growth. Analysts said North American process companies outsource to foreign countries to build plants due to cheaper labor, looser environmental regulations and less emphasis on plant safety.
