Portable Receipt Printer: Basic Guide On Portable Thermal Printer

September 2nd, 2010

Able to bring your notebook computer anywhere is awesome. It allows you to work and access the internet almost everywhere. Mobile computers are ideal for people who work in the field so they can document and create research on the field without the need to travel to the office just to use the computer. However what’s the use of a notebook computer if you are likely to go back home or company simply to produce a memorandum or report for your presentation.

Having a small portable printer that conveniently fits together with your mobile computer in your briefcase comes very handy and expands the functionality of your mobile computer. Think of the additional things you can do if you have a printer with you while on a family vacation or in the field working. You can make a memo and print it on the spot. Label a place or put a sign in a professional approach. You can also print extra or additional handouts for your business presentation which you didn’t remember to do at home. You can also share a copy of your favorite images to your close friends and family while visiting them.

Mobile or portable printers are usually battery operated and can print plenty of documents before recharging it, or if there’s an electrical socket available, you can just simply plug it in to maintain the battery. The mobile computer communicates and transfers its documents by using IRDA or Bluetooth wirelessly. You also have the option of linking it to just about any computer system via USB port. The smallest mobile printer you can buy basically is dependent on the dimension of paper you want to work with. Additionally, it depends on just how much cash you are prepared to spend.

In case you are planning to use it for printing a sales receipt or pictures you can probably have it as compact as the conventional wallet that usually fits at your back pocket. If you are planning to print a larger size forms say A6 sized bond paper then you can have it a bit longer than the width of the paper. The only disadvantage of using a portable printer is that they normally have poor printing quality but good enough if you are only printing text documents, except on Polaroid printers. Also, the rate is probably sluggish than most desktop printers.

In the future, expect to find a much smaller sized transportable printer, the length probably will not change a lot but the width and height probably will. The quality of print and the speed will perhaps increase enabling you to print high quality images quickly. Some manufacturers are now introducing an inkless printer which dramatically decreases the total dimension due to the space taken out by the ink cartridge.

The secret of this small portable printer depends on the paper which uses innovative materials that produces outstanding colors when activated. Popular printer companies like Canon and HP are always developing their printers, creating smaller and high quality printer all the time. There will come a time that the size of the printer will be so little that it can be enclosed into the notebook computer and you don’t have to get a separate printer anymore.

Best Laptop Computer Systems For High School Kids

August 31st, 2010

1. Overview

Before we look at the laptops most suitable for college students, we should understand what constitutes a good student laptop. Typically, a student wants a laptop that’s lightweight and comfortable enough to lug back and forth from their various classes. In addition, the laptop needs excellent battery life and performance. And prices are sometimes a concern, so the above features have to be packed into an affordable package.

After considering the types of laptops appropriate for college students, I’ve decided to split them into three categories: budget, thin and light and ultraportable. Let’s take a look at them now …

2. Budget Laptops

For a college student that is short on cash, a low cost laptop is a smart buy. Some of the best budget laptops include those from Dell, Toshiba and HP. I i believe find the Toshiba Satellite A215-S4747 will probably be great budget laptop. You receive an AMD based dual core CPU, which perfroms effectively with many applications. Additionally you receive a huge 200GB hard drive and numerous peripheral ports.

There’s also a nice Sony VGN-NR160E/S model that is (surprisingly) within the budget category. Right out of the box, this machine gives you the Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 processor, 1 GB of RAM and a large 160GB hard drive – that’s a lot of computing power at budget price.

3. Thin and Light Laptops

If you prefer a more powerful laptop and don’t mind a small amount of weight, then try going for some sort of thin and light laptop. Several of the models I’m able to think of include those from Lenovo, HP and Sony.

The Sony VAIO VGN-FZ280E is a pretty good choice for a thin and light notebook. This system comes with a Bluray compatible writer that will also burn CDs and DVDs. In addition, you receive an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz CPU, 2GB RAM plus a huge 250GB hard drive.

Another model I’d consider is the HP Pavilion dv6675us. You can get yourself an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz CPU, 4GB RAM and 250GB of hard drive space. The 4GB of RAM is an excellent feature which will come in handy if you’re a student of finance or science and have to run intensive computational applications.

4. Ultraportable Laptops

If the size and weight of the laptop is of high importance to you personally, then choose an ultraportable laptop. These laptops give excellent computing performance in a really small, compact package.

In this particular category, I believe the Lenovo ThinkPad X61 is a great choice for students. It is slightly pricey (although not outrageously so) but it is one of the best performing laptops around. It weighs in at only about 3 pounds and it’s hence a very portable piece of hardware. In addition, you receive an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz CPU, 2GB RAM and an ample 100GB hard drive. You don’t get a built-in DVD writer though – that unit is external from the laptop.

Another good choice is the Toshiba Portege R500-S5001X. It weights 2.4 pounds and it is less than an inch thick. This is among the thinnest and lightest notebooks you will find on the market. It is also very reasonably priced.

Conclusion

Well! I really hope this article has gone over with you the various kinds of laptops which are well suited for college students. No matter what your needs and budget, make sure that you do proper research before shelling out any cash. Until next time, good luck and happy shopping!

Different Roles Of Internet Browser To A Computer

August 31st, 2010

The internet is a new and dangerous place. Security for your personal computer and identity is important. If you are going to be serious about this issue then you must guard both your computer with anti-virus software and you must protect you computer when it accesses the internet. This is done through the use of a web browser. Most of them have a place where you can adjust the setting for more security. This is a good place to start.

The browser does many things besides security. It adds the details that make you able to make positive changes.

Browsers give you the ability to check your temporary files. Take advantage of this and see what may be slowing you down. Also look into the log and view the history of browsing.

Deleting these two items will free up wasted disc space and restore the functions of your computer. This will improve your online speed and will give you added security benefits of not waiting for any time bomb that might be present to damage the system.

Corrupted files and cookies are a serious concern because they may assist in browsers crashing. In order to prevent that from happening to you, use the clean up programs that come standard with windows. The point here is to use them often enough to get the real value of your memory and the security of not having junk hang about.

Be wary that some add ons are not verified.

The best way to avoid this sort of trouble is to never ever use add ons from an unknown location. If it is not verified, do not use it. Most browsers will warn you about insecure websites. These sites may have nice little programs that will harm your computer. Just do not go to those sites. Let the browser lead you to more safe ground.

Updates to browsers are very important. All browsers will update, but go ahead and get the update as soon as you can. This will speed up your searches and will give you great security advantages.

Aside from PC Security, this writer also regularly publishes information about laptop power adapter and free remote access software.

Laptop Buying Guide

August 28th, 2010

With the number of brands flooding the laptop market, choosing the right one is one hell of a challenge. The characteristics and cost do not differ too much between one and another. First make up your mind as to for what function you are planning to buy a laptop. It could be for just playing games, data storage, browsing on internet or may be business requirements.

Features you need to consider are many but some of them are more important than the others. First thing you need to look for in a laptop is Upgradeability. Most of the laptops are non upgradeable. It is not possible to upgrade different parts of laptop computer such as sound card, video card, screen and CPU because these parts come along with the laptop. At times it is possible to upgrade certain parts such as hard drives, main memory and CPU. In newer laptops you can upgrade to USB 2.0 and Firewire ports. As upgrading different parts of laptops would lead to reduced portability and increased weight, it no longer remains an option in some laptops.

The next important point to look for is portability. As that’s the basic reason why people require a laptop be it a businessman or a student, you need to carry your data along. Laptops are available in the market with different speed, capacity, weight and size. Depending on your specific requirements, you can make a choice as to which one to buy.

Most important thing you need to consider is the expense. You will generally find that cost of a laptop is approximately double that of desktop computers. If cost is a major concern, then going for desktop would be a better option.

Considering other features like Batteries, Memory, Video Memory, Wireless LAN and Hard Drives will also help you decide better. With several models to choose from you will surely find a laptop which suits your pocket as well as requirements.

How You Can Replace Internal Laptop Hard Drives

August 28th, 2010

The first thing to understand about internal laptop hard drives, is that they are essentially the lifeline of your system. Without one, your laptop is dead. And with a low capacity one your computer will be so slow it might as well be.

If you are thinking about replacing your hard drive, you should first try cleaning up your current software. This will greatly increase the speed of operations. Having lots of programs stored on your computer, often old and unused ones, is a commonly overlooked problem regarding the speed of your system.

Once you clean up your system and it is still running slower than expected, then replacing the hard drive is the next step. Most people consider this a job they can do easily themselves. Almost all laptops will have an easy access panel found on the underside of the unit. A single screw should be all that is keeping it in place. Once removed, you will see the drive in a metal frame known as a caddy. It is important to keep the caddy to install the replacement. If you are having trouble or are a little unsure, look for a guide specific to your model. There are thousands of them online for free. You should always check the manual before opening up your unit.

Once removed you will need to select a replacement. Almost all hard drives are a uniformed two and a half inches in size, for ease of upgrading. The capacity can be from 10 GB to 750 GB, but most people find that 250 GB is enough for general use.

The speed of your new hard drive should also be considered. Most spin at 5,400 rpm, while some of the newer high powered systems are going with 7,200 rpm drives. The higher spin rate gives you better performance, but also uses more of the already limited battery life. Think about what you mostly use your laptop for. If it’s just day to day browsing on the internet then the slower speed is plenty. The faster speed is normally only required for high spec laptops, such as hard core gamers would use.

If you don’t know much about computers then it would be best to get advice on which type of hard drive to go for. The huge range can leave some people bewildered. Try asking staff in any computer store, as they will be in touch with the latest developments and happy to help you out.

You could also try looking online for advice. Try forums or expert sites for the best advice, but as always be careful when taking information from sources your not 100 percent sure of.

Do You Enjoy Reading? IPad Has An App For That

August 28th, 2010

Probably one of the more popular features of the iPad-aside from its multi-orientation interface-is its accessibility to hundreds of thousands of apps. These programs have been specifically designed to run on the iPad; there is zero possibility to find it anywhere else, except on the iPhone and iPod Touch. The applications cater to a wide range of categories, including entertainment, business, games, education, and sports. Practically anything you can think of has been prepared for by Apple engineers and third-party developers. Whatever your need, there’s an app for that.

One useful application offered on the iPad is an e-book reader called iBooks. The size of the iPad screen is ideal for reading; there is no squinting necessary to view text displayed on this device. Most of the technical aspects relating to the readability of the material can be adjusted such as its brightness, text size, typeface, and background. The background lighting can be dimmed according to the user’s preference and this is especially useful for reading at night since nocturnal reading becomes unbearable when the screen is too bright.

Moreover, text size and font styles can be altered to suit the user’s needs. For some odd reason, we all have quirky preferences when it comes to font styles. There are people who just simply could not stand neither Times New Roman nor Arial; sometimes, they find it easy to read huge blocks of text displayed in Helvetica or Palatino Linotype. Text adjustment is definitely good news for those who like to read lengthy novels.

Another wonderful feature of the iBooks app is its capability to render superb graphics. iPad’s crisp screen and high-speed memory allows images to appear as you read it without waiting for the image to complete. It makes graphic novels and illustrated books better appreciated.

Incidentally, Marvel Comics has its own e-book reader app on the iPad, which means the Marvel experience is easily accessible via a simple download! The images can be enlarged or minimized by simply pinching on the multi-touch screen. It is also easier to navigate and browse the pages of Marvel’s comic books by tapping the thumbnails.

In line with further reading, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times have also created an app exclusively for the iPad. While it is not exactly a great replacement for a physical broadsheet newspaper, it provides as easy, “tap-worthy” access to news as you need it.

These applications are available on the not-so-subtly named marketplace App Store, which can be accessed on a specialized app on the iPad. iBooks is already included in the device once you purchase it, while the Marvel Comics app can be purchased on the App Store or through Amazon. Currently, Amazon still holds the record of offering more and better titles more than any other e-book seller. The user has the option to preview the books or comics before buying and as a lucky iPad owner, you can also order Marvel Comics in print to add to your collection.

How To Determine If Your Laptop Needs A Professional Repair

August 27th, 2010

Without doubt the boom in technology we have experienced over the last few years has been incredible. From the birth of the desktop PC to current laptop technology and even further, we now consider scrapping laptops when they need repairing. Modern society relies on mobile computing including laptops and phones.

Laptop technology is very advanced indeed and even though it is complex and often fragile, it is not the hardware that is always at fault. Software related issues are probably more common.

Laptops have a habit of running slow and this is usually not a hardware problem. More likely, it will be down to a full or nearly full hard drive. This is simply cured by removing unwanted files and maybe storing unused files on to a DVD or alternative storage. Follow this up with a defrag and all problems may go away. Hint: your laptop probably has a DVD writer and DVDs can store a lot of data.

If your hard drive is as clear as you can get it and things are still running slow, there are two things to consider. The first is a defragmentation of your hard drive. This is like re-indexing your files and stacking them nicely on a virtual bookshelf on your hard drive. The defragmentation process can be a very long one and with large hard drives these days could mean leaving it running over night.

Another big reason for apparent laptop failure can be virus related. If you connect to the internet, it is perilously easy to pick up a virus even with the most up to date virus tools. Talking of which, it really is vital to have full virus protection and keeping the software up to date. Overlooking this can be a costly mistake and is probably the number one advice for any computer.

Operating system updates should always be undertaken at regular intervals too. Software can rely on these updates and missing vital updates can cause software problems and even produce security issues. So, make sure this feature of your operating system is turned on.

If all else fails and its a hardware issue after all, its not always an expensive repair. In fact, laptop spare parts and components are usually readily available and not as expensive as to take your breath away. It might even be worth considering having things upgraded whilst it is being attended too. It doesn’t take long for laptop machines to need the occasional boost.

Some Tips On Getting Yourself A Cheap Laptop

August 23rd, 2010

If you are looking to get a new laptop to use for whatever purpose you choose you will want to marry quality with price. You may not want to go dirt cheap and therefore sacrifice the overall power of the machine but you will still want to get a good deal on what you need. The problem with electronic goods is that they are generally very expensive. So how exactly are you supposed to go about getting a cheap laptop?

Right so how to go about doing this? well, there are two main ways of getting yourself a cheaper laptop and these can then be broken down into different options themselves. The first way is to get one offline and the second is to go online.

So, if you were going to go and get on off line then how would you go about doing this? well, this is simply going to involve getting your clothes on, getting into your car or on the bus, and getting yourself down into the local area where there are some electronics shops. Now the problem with this is that you are going to have to actually leave your house, but on the plus side you will be able to get the laptop immediately.

However, it is likely to be more expensive doing things this way if you simply choose to find a cheaper laptop and buy it there and then. Instead, it would surely be better to wait for some sort of sale to go on and then get the laptop then? in addition you might be able to negotiate on price a little bit in certain independent outlets so give this a go.

So how about getting this piece of kit online? well this is usually guaranteed to help you to get a cheaper deal. If you are able to spend some time simply looking through different online shops you are going to be able to find some cut price laptops somewhere and you do not even need to worry about leaving the comfort of your own home.

You may even consider getting a second hand laptop as well. If you do this you are sure to be able to find a much lower price but may worry about the quality or functioning of the machine. However, if you do go down this road then the best place to start looking will certainly be through ebay.

These are a few ways of getting a cheaper laptop.

Get An IPad Case To Protect Your Investment

August 19th, 2010

What is the Best iPad Case to Buy?

There are a wide variety of iPad cases, sleeves and covers out there. Which kind of cover you are going to want for your iPad depends on your personal taste, what your going to be using your iPad for, and where you are going to be taking it.

The first part of this iPad case review will be about the Neoprene cases that are out there. I personally tend to like these about the best. I use one for a netbook that I own and I have found that it does a great job of protecting it. If you travel, then a Neoprene iPad case may be the best decision because of their durability. It is the same material used in wet / dry suits not that it is going to be waterproof (since it will not be) but you will know that it can put up with a lot. In addition to being durable they are also affordable and stylish at the same time.

Next up are leather iPad cases. You can find a pretty wide variety of leather cases, if you want a good one they’re going to cost more than a good Neoprene case, but I’ve gotta say, they look pretty slick. Plus, if you really don’t want to pay much, but still want an actual case instead of a sleeve, you can get one for around 15USD. For comparison, you can get a good Neoprene case for about 35USD, and a good leather case for about 60USD. If your planing to get a top quality case to protect your iPad, and want to take it along during business of any kind, I’d recommend you take a look at the Tuff-Luv Multi-View Nappa Leather case. In general, leather cases provide some of the greatest variety, especially in high end cases. It’s certainly worth looking through the leather cases if you can afford to spend a decent amount of money, and want a good case for business occasions, or if you want to swing the other way and go thrifty.

Lastly, getting an iPad sleeve or skin should be a requirement when buying an iPad if you ask me. Most people will use their iPad in situations where it will be sometimes be sitting on a table. You do not want it to accidentally get pushed off of the table and hit the floor, right? For everyday use, we suggest getting an iPad skin to help give it some extra protection that is also low profile. Getting a skin for your iPad is much, much cheaper than getting an entirely new iPad, so you can thank us now or later – it is up to you!

We have reviewed the different types of iPad cases, covers and skins available. You can get the leather or Neoprene ones and either kind will give you the protection that is required for such a device. Protect your investment and you will be enjoying it for years to come for sure.

Find the best leather iPad cases out there to help you protect your smart little device.

Procuring A Good Computer

August 18th, 2010

You can’t possibly imagine that all people all over the world could for whatever reason be less connected than they are now thanks to the advent of the internet. It has brought so many people together from all over the world that it has shrunk the globe by leaps and bounds. All you need is a computer, a laptop or even a phone. These are ubiquitous and not hard to find.

The best way to get online is via a laptop or notebook computer. And there are many. But there are some things to keep in mind when you are thinking about buying one: Hardware specs, portability and the ability to upgrade your computer when it gets old.

You may not need a lot of features, or you might need many. This is why the hardware specifications are so important. You should be aware of what different things make capable for your computer. Are you gaming? Or are you just browsing?

Some people say you should buy more computer than you think you will need. It is good advice, but that stuff drives up the cost and makes your computer more expensive. So be careful about the cost. Odds are good that your needs aren’t going to change remarkably from the time you buy through your time using.

The ability to upgrade a computer is another important factor. When you run out of hard drive space, you may just toss the old computer and get a new one. But often improving your computer may be the cheaper and easier option.

This is a doubly important thing to think about if you are one of the people who likes to use peripheral devices like printers and usb drives. But not so much if you are not this type of computer user, or someone who is likely to need these things.

Lastly, you will need to consider the issue of portability. Do you feel like hauling a big old computer weighing 25 pounds around in your backpack? Probably not. Try it out first.

You should have a sturdy and not too heavy computer for your use if you are the type of person who wants to get the computer over to a place to use it, but not so much if you are a more stable person likely to use the computer at home.

Make sure you are buying the right computer by keeping these things in mind: Speed, upgrades and mobility. Basically it isn’t so hard to think about.
