Domain Name Protection-Important Measures

March 2nd, 2010

Domain protection is a top priority for your Internet business. Your domain name can be taken from you. This is often called domain hijacking. This is where your domain is stolen through various means, sometimes re-registering, getting into your e-mail, after finding out your e-mail address from your registration, or false identification is used. We will discuss ways to stop this in this article.

There are different reasons why someone would want to hijack your domain name. They can be just hacking with destructive intent. It could also be that your going to get quoted a price from them to get it back. They may assume that it is more costly to go through the legal battles than to just pay them. They are taking a heavy legal risk but it does happen.

The first mode of protection is we need to assure all of our registration data is up-to-date including our e-mails for contact, address, phone number, and owners names. When utilizing an e-mail make for certain you’re using a secure service and a complex password. Avoid using words coming from a dictionary within the the password on account of password guesser tools. Which goes for the registration company where you registered your domain. It’s a good decision to utilize a password memory tool that is fully encrypted rather than a internet browser to save them, so you won’t have to type in these complex passwords

Another very important item that you can do is to lock your domain in your control panel where you registered your domain name. If you do not see a lock in there then you must contact customer service to verify that it is either already locked or needs to be locked by them.

Rules for domain transferring plus more details which are current are controlled by ICANN and you can find out about the newest information for this about transferring. When someone attempts to bring about a transfer from your name to theirs or fake name you ought to be notified by the company that registered your domain that the attempt is being made. You’re given a few days to respond usually this is going to be by e-mail.

Another point should be to register with a top domain company or hosting service. If you get a low budget, unprofessional service, you might not be notified properly by them that this transfer attempt is being made.

Some of these hijackings are done when people do not update their e-mail address. The key reason why they forget to get this done many times is they switch Internet service providers, and they use the e-mail service that includes the Internet service. Then when they switch companies the former e-mail is no longer valid and they forget to update the address in their domain registration control panels.

If you cannot be contacted, the domain transfer can go through and your permission is not necessarily required at the time this article was written. It is vital that you receive these e-mails, or other notifications by phone or address so you can monitor any transfer attempts.

You can make your WhoIs information private as another security measure. If you wish you still can register your domain as private even after you had purchased it.

You must also make sure that when you are using a wireless network that it is an encrypted network. Criminals tap into these networks to get information. These networks may not be apparent where you’re at, such as a coffee shop, restaurant, or other public place. If you are not sure do not access any of these domain accounts or the e-mail account that is the contact address for your domain. Always run top notch anti-virus and ant-spy-ware programs while working on your accounts.

How Can Domain Flipping Help Improve Your Business?

November 8th, 2009

When you do domain flipping, you can also do website flipping. “Domain flipping” is somewhat like house flipping, whereby you buy a house, fix it up, and then resell it for a profit. With website flipping, there are three different types. You can be a beginner who builds a website from the ground up and has a keyword rich domain; you can be a “standard flipper,” whereby you purchase an existing website (much like house flipping), fix it up, and then resell it; finally, you can also be a long-term website flipping investor, whereby you bring in an income as you fix up a website.

Whichever of these types of “flippers” you are (and you can certainly be all three), you can earn income even as you enhance websites. For example, you can set up a domain name with keyword content on your website that slowly gets recognized by the search engines and moves on up in rank. As you continue to build the website and the domain keeps going up in the search engines, it will become more valuable and other websites will link to you, which gives you more revenue, including that from Adsense. This is how many of the website flipping and domain flipping network functions work.

What can be difficult, is finding the right domain name to buy and the most effective way to make it highly ranked in the search engine findings so that it’s worth more money when resold. Essentially, you can buy a domain name, put a website together, and work to make it more popular with website rankings, which in turn will make you ad revenue even as you drive more traffic to your site. This makes both your domain and website worth more, which means that somebody will likely want to buy it to become part of their business.

For the long-term website flipping investor, they will look at the income streams they can produce by purchasing these domain flipping and website flipping based businesses. As each level of flipping increases the value, it also increases the income stream that goes with it, even though it is based on information and no real product is sold. The more popular it is in the search engine results, the more traffic it gets and the more advertisers will want to link to it.

But how do you find successful domain names for flipping and building successful websites? There are a few programs that give you advice and offer helpful tools for domain flipping and website flipping. You can use keyword tools, dynamic domain name checkers, and SEO optimization to build an online business that has no business behind it, other than the domain name and website. You can convert a $10 investment in a domain name, into several hundred fairly easily.

Some beginning website flippers will graduate from domain flipping. Those that start out with researching a successful domain name can sometimes turn the $10 investment over quite quickly. Some domain flipping businesses will buy multiple domain names based on local businesses that might have an interest in them. There are a number of tactics that can be used to become successful at domain flipping and website flipping.

Website flipping is becoming more popular as the most popular domain names are already taken and it is slightly harder to make money in domain flipping, while there is still plenty of opportunity in website flipping. It still comes down to starting with a good domain name to drive online traffic and increase the profitability of the website.

The New MSN Bing Comeback

September 12th, 2009

Ever since codename Kumo, was revealed as Microsoft’s latest search, sorry decision making engine, netizens everywhere have been curious to find out if Google has finally found a worthy competitor, in the sonorously worded Bing. Tongues started rolling ever since Microsoft acquired Powerset in July last year and the predictions have come true as Bing utilizes Powersets semantics driven search engine to give more intuitive search results.

Bing was fomenting for a long time in Microsofts backyard and came out front after Microsofts ambitious takeover of Powersoft with its semantic search systems. Bing put those skills to good use with its results turning out pretty much, as accurate as Google on certain sets of keywords such as Paris Hilton or Arnold Schwarzenegger with an xRank feature indicating their popularity, But Bing does turn out some wonderfully vague results with more complex questions like I think Im going to die something Google avoids by bringing up links to self help pages.

The explorer pane on the right side provides handy links to search categories, if any while a pop up window allows a sneak peek at the site contents before you open it. Bing also remembers your search history and displays similar search queries as you type, however this feature can be turned off to avoid potential embarrassment (a lesson for Google here!). This Check-in-Bing facility is also extended to Video results with excerpts of each video played within Bing itself. Images can also be easily found with a point by point search for size, shape or the presence of people and zoomed in for a better look with links to similar images as well.

Images and video searches have definitely improved over Live, with image searches yielding pop-up thumbnails, offering links to similar images. The biggest improvement however, is the Video search functionality which allows you to play videos inside the search engine with a simple mouse hover. The video search however, has the drawback of playing any videos that the search brings up. Disabling the safe search feature allows instant access to thousands of porn videos, which play in the browser, making Microsoft’s attempt to make Bing popular, a little under handed.

Using Bing Travel, you can actually find which airlines are cheaper and whether the prices would rise or fall. Shopping is a pleasure with user and expert reviews for every listing and every listing being a product itself with a Microsoft Cashback scheme in place, guaranteeing you with a discount on purchases made through Bing Shopping.

News is an area where Google wins hands down. Bing offers to break down searches into Location and Category, however Time tagged searches would have been much more powerful and would have given Bing a much more editorial feel Bing is Microsofts big splash into the heavily indexed market of information, which has been run by Google, for too long. Bing should offer Google some competition and force Google to improve its standards, which seem to be slipping these days. Though it is tough to wean away determined Googlers- keep an eye out for Bing

Choosing the Right Domain Name

June 27th, 2009

Domain names are to websites as book covers are to novels. If they are not interesting enough, or don’t properly convey what a website is about, visitor will have no desire to enter them in their browsers. Yet, excessive creativity doesn’t make for a good domain name either. Why is this so? It’s because if a domain name is creative but not keyword-rich, search engine bots won’t be able to index it in search engine listings. So, ultimately, your domain name must be both catchy yet search engine optimized. This article will explain how you can achieve both objectives.

First and foremost you will need to find a popular search engine keyword that can be incorporated into your domain name. A keyword analyzer can help you in this task. These can be found pretty easily with a basic search engine query. When you find one, enter in a keyword that best summarizes the purpose of your website. The keyword analyzer will return different versions of this keyword. If the more specific instances can also fit within the nature of your website, choose one. This is because when it comes to search engine optimization, more specific keywords are better since they are less likely to be used by other webmasters.

Now you can start selecting your actual domain name. Most domain name companies will allow you to see whether or not your domain name is available. If it is not available, it will return a list of recommended domain names. Take advantage of this tool by first entering your selected keyword. If your keyword as a domain name is not available, consider the suggestions the domain name company gives. If the main keyword is still included in these suggestions and it ends with .com, consider it. Otherwise, you will have to be more creative.

For example, you can use ‘filler’ words, numbers or phrases within your domain name to still include your selected keyword. Fillers could be ‘a,’ ‘an’ or ‘the.’ Search engines tend to not look at these words, so you still have a good shot at getting indexed while having a domain name that is memorable and catchy. You can also consider fillers at the end of a phrase, such as ‘101′.

What if you do these things and you still can’t get .com? Well, there are some situations where it is better to stick with a lesser-used extension because the keyword is just that popular. Extensions that still get noticed include .net, .biz and .org. Additionally, you can also consider using country or state-based extensions if you don’t mind international or local-based marketing. It’s better to be number 1 in France’s version of Google than to be number 200 or worse in America’s version of Google.

In conclusion, choosing a domain name that will get the right buzz from both humans and search engines doesn’t have to be hard. The keyword analyzer will help you with 90% of your domain name, while your wit with fillers can help you the other 10%. And, if after an immense amount of pondering, you still can’t get the .com, you can opt for other extensions.
