A press release is a written communication directed at members of the news to announce something of value. Today, most releases are distributed via the internet or emailed to reporters in a specific niche. Commercial press release services distribute thousands of news releases each and every day.

Press releases are sent by individuals, corporations, and government agencies. The purpose of which is to announce a new product, service, or event. The PR industry has used press releases as a way to filter the news and focus on what is most relevant. Not only has it served as an efficient way to distribute the news, but an effective way to receive it.

A press release is easy to create. Most include the date of the release, a headline, body copy, and a brief company description. Online releases include the same information with a link back to the company’s website or product page. The challenge is creating a release that is newsworthy and gets attention.

Over the last decade, hundreds of online press release websites have come online, helping reporters sift through these notifications and find the information they need. What does this mean to internet marketing? It means that there are sites that publish your news and are viewed by tens of thousands of people seeking targeted information daily.

If you have something to promote, then learning more about online press releases is where you want to focus your time. Not because of the news factor, but because with each release, you can include a link to your website. This adds a tremendous boost to your website rankings and improves as your releases become more common.

When I need to build a ton of back links to my website quickly, I always gravitate toward online press releases. You can implement this today. Do a Google search for free press releases and look at the top 10 results. You will find many that do not charge. How To Reach The Top Of Major Search Engine With Your Website

October 26th, 2009

Putting up a web site is easier than ever. But having a good understanding of design doesn’t help unless you also understand the power of designing your site in a way that improves your chances of top rankings. After I built my first website, I quickly learned that I knew nothing about SEO. As a result, I had to redesign my site after seeking out information about design and top rankings.

After I learned that good website design requires integration of SEO best practices, I was on a mission to learn more about search engine optimization principles being used by top websites and applying them to my own. It took me a good three months to learn about SEO and design principles because not a lot of good information existed on the Web. Once I understood the fundamentals, I began applying them to my own website.

Once I redesigned my website and applied the on page optimization techniques from reading dozens of web pages, blogs, and websites, I had a pretty good understanding of what I did wrong and how I could impact my search rankings. With the design tweaks I had made and a little extra effort, I was able to boost my position by about 40 spots. I was so impressed that I got hooked on learning more.

I learned that SEO takes time. There really are no quick fixes. I also learned the proper techniques to not only find the right keywords to choose and build a site that is search engine friendly, I also discovered more than I could ever imagine about effective SEO techniques. Over time, I have expanded the techniques and continue to learn more powerful ways to boost search results. This continuous learning is necessary for search engine optimization because it is always changing.

The most valuable lesson I learned about doing business on the web, from all my research, was that the most important aspect is choosing the right niche for your site. As a factor of segmentation, you also need to choose the right keywords to optimize for. Depending on the level of competition for that keyword or keyword phrase, the promise of top rankings might be easy, or for the most competitive keywords, extremely difficult.

One of the best pieces of advice I was given by a developer I worked with, when it comes to SEO, is to keep you website basic. That means no fancy stuff. I know everyone wants to create unbelievable functionality but the reality is that keeping it simple is better for your website visitors and search spiders that crawl your site.

Focus on link building. Submit articles, focus on acquiring one-way links, and develop a strategy for updating content on a regular basis so others will link to your site. Especially for Google, link building is an incredibly powerful tool.

I quickly discovered that it’s easy to find experienced people who can provide advice on SEO. I’m a big fan of SEO related forums and collecting as much information as possible before applying it to your site. The key is to find a technique, apply it consistently over time, and see if it works for you.

The good news is that although these techniques take time, they work. No more searching for the silver bullet ” keep things simple. Additionally, be sure to research software or services that can help you along the way. Don’t be afraid to get help and persist until you achieve your goal. It worked for me and it can work for you too.

SEO and SEM For Online Marketing Success

October 25th, 2009

Sometimes there is a great deal of confusion between search engine optimization and search engine marketing. Although these online marketing techniques are quite different from one another, they share a number of similarities.

Let us begin by focusing on search engine optimization also referred to as SEO and comparing SEO to search engine marketing which is referred to as SEM. Both SEO and SEM require a firm understanding of how they work and where they fit in the online marketing mix. SEO requires a strong knowledge of how search engines work and what it takes to achieve top search engine placement. Search Marketing requires a firm understanding about online advertising, keywords, and ROI.

From the outside, both internet marketing methods appear to be very complex. The truth however, is that SEO and SEM are simple to understand. Implementation of best practices is what makes success such a challenge. Search engine optimization is essentially the techniques you use to rank well on major search engines is a direct result of your understanding and application of proven techniques in the area of SEO.

SEM success is based on an understanding of running online marketing campaigns across various advertising networks. The largest networks are Google, Yahoo! and MSN. Each works differently but at the same time, the general premise is the same. You place an online ad that displays when users type in specific keywords that you identify. If a browser clicks on your display ad, you pay a fee regardless of whether or not they convert into a customer.

Search engine optimization is unique and different from search engine marketing because the organic result which appears in search engines is driven from your optimization techniques. These techniques are broken down into on page optimization and off page optimization. On page optimization is closely tied to web site design and off page is more associated with in bound links to your website.

The purpose of SEO is to generate natural traffic to your website. After a browser completes a search on Google or other major search engine, the resulting list is based on each search engines algorithm. When users click on these results you do not pay. Organic search is usually referred to as natural or free traffic.

SEM is different than search engine optimization for one fundamental reason. With SEM, you pay when someone takes an action. Unlike traditional advertising you do not pay for your advertisement to appear, only when someone clicks on your ad. Your cost varies based on how competitive your keywords are and where you want your ad to display.

Doing business online requires a firm knowledge of both search engine optimization as well as search engine marketing Both internet marketing disciplines can support your online success. If you are not currently comfortable with SEO or SEM, begin with some simple research, explore SEO and SEM products, or subscribe to an RSS feed. Doing so can improve your knowledge and expertise in both of these areas.

The Number One SEO Secrets You’ve Been Looking For

October 25th, 2009

After writing a book about SEO and even publishing my own SEO products and services, I still seem to get the same question over and over again. That question is simply what the secret is to top search engine rankings. Other than applying SEO best practices, there are really only a couple of SEO techniques that stand above all else.

I consider some SEO techniques to be true secrets because they are not generally talked about or shared by others. You might wonder why this is. Simply put, there are a number of reasons why these secrets are not shared and it often has to do with the fear that as more use these secrets the less effective they will be.

If you are thinking about SEO and you are anything like me, you probably want the fastest, quickest, most effortless way to put your website on top of search engine result lists. You think about the value of having the number one position. The result is traffic, higher ad revenue, sales, and so on.

For someone makes their income online, I can promise you that being ranked number one for a competitive keywords makes a huge difference in your online performance. The difference between a number one ranking and lower rankings comes down to making a living online or making nothing at all.

What are these secrets I’m referring too? I am more than happy to share my secrets with you. Let me warn you however that not every secret is really all that unique. In fact, most helpful information is a popular technique applied in a new way. Personally, that is how I think about SEO secrets which helps me to truly apply them effectively. Even simple distinctions can have a positive influence on your search engine rankings.

The secret is simple. If you want to achieve number one rankings for any keyword, then you simply need to follow the same strategy being used by the top ranked website for that keyword. Does this technique sound too simple? If you answered yes, then I ask you to ask yourself if you are using it today. This technique may be simple but it is not easy. To be as successful as the number one ranked website you need to discover what he is doing to be ranked number one. Top rankings do not happen by chance.

Start taking advantage of this by analyzing the links into your competitor’s website. This can be done using Alexa or Google. When links are made to your competitors site, this is referred to as back links. These in-bound links often contain text inclusive of the keywords you are optimization for. Attempt to get links from the same sites with your keywor phrase included. This will help you to quickly match your competitors linking strategy.

The obvious challenge here is not only finding who is linking to your competitor, but to actually build links from the same web pages. This if often easier said than done. The good news is that there are a number of software programs that can help you do this. I’ve personally used a number of them and can tell you that they work.

Use this technique to improve your rankings. Simply learn what makes your competitor rank in the number one position. Specifically, find out who is linking to him and how they are linking. By duplicating the linking strategy, you can dramatically improve your website ranking for the specific keywords you choose.

Succeed Online With These Winning SEO Strategies

October 25th, 2009

Search engine optimization is made up of two different disciplines that must work with one another to be truly successful. The two areas you have to master including on page optimization and off page optimization. Web sites that are expert at both can achieve search engine optimization success.

If you want your search engine optimization strategy to carry you for a long time, you’ll have to start with well thought through strategy. You should be aware that building search engine optimization success starts with on page optimization. Just like building a great house, you have to start with a strong foundation. On page optimization provides that strong base that enhances your link building and other off-page optimization techniques.

The place to start when thinking about on-page optimization is with URLs and the overall structure of your web site. The reason we want to start here is because the URL is one of the most visible aspects of a web site. However, don’t put too much emphasis on the domain name as that is only part of the on-page optimization game. It definitely helps with Yahoo and MSN but not as much with Google.

It is true that including your keyword phrase in your URL is beneficial even though it is not the end all be all. This is especially true with engines like Yahoo and Bing. A good strategy to deploy is to use a sub-domain strategy. This means setting up sub domains from your main site that include the keyword you’re optimization for. It would look something like this: sneakers.yoursite.com where your site is the name of your main web site.

You can also create new pages that include your keyword as part of the URL. This is almost as equally strong as the sub-domain strategy and very easy to implement. Simply create a folder or page on your server that includes your keyword. An example would be: yoursite.com/runningshoes. By adding the keywords as part f your URL, you are improving your chances of appearing in search results given other on page SEO criteria is met.

After focusing your optimization efforts on your URL, its time to focus on other on page attributes. One of the most important is page load time. This is a function of the overall size of your page, scripts, use of CSS, etc. and requires a good deal of experience from a programming perspective. The best bet is to have someone with SEO experience review your pages to make sure that you are applying SEO best practices from an on page perspective.

Only after you have on-page optimization covered from all angles is it time to focus on off-page optimization. Essentially you want to make sure that you’ve build that strong foundation for your web site that you can easily build upon. If your foundation is set up properly, you can build upon it for the long term. Off-page optimization is the practice of building links to your web site and focusing on other referrals from authority web sites.

Getting started with search engine optimization is easy if you focus on the two disciplines associated with SEO. Give time and attention to on-page optimization and off-page optimization. Beginning with on page tactics helps to create a sustainable site that will always be seen by search engines. Once a strong foundation is in place, build links to your site from third party sites in a related niche. These techniques will improve your rankings dramatically.

When designing a new web site, there is a great deal to consider before you begin. Have you chosen a good niche? Have you organized your content in a way that is search engine friendly? Do you have a URL that makes it easy for search engine spiders to know what your website is all about?

Even if you have done all of the pre work to ensure that you are going to develop a web site that meets your needs, you must consider the needs of search engine spiders and SEO. Search engine optimization of web site design is easy if you know what to do.

The first step in SEO design is to start with an site designed in html. Additionally, the use of a cascading style sheet is essential. Cascading style sheets allow you to design with minimal code. This keeps your site optimized while providing a consistent look across all web pages. Your design must be simple and effective to be search engine optimized.

Make sure that each of your web pages uses unique meta tags. Your meta tags should include the site keywords you are optimizing for. The meta tags signal the search engine spiders as to the type of content contained within your site. Your web site template should always place your keyword phrase at the top of your page and end of your page.

One way to accomplish this is by starting your title tag with your keyword phrase. At the end of each page, include a copyright notice followed by your keyword phrase. One example is Copyright 2009. MarketingScoop.com Marketing Expert. If marketing expert is your keyword phrase it should be included as the footer in your CSS template.

In addition to the beginning and end of your web page, focus SEO design with these helpful tips. Include your keyword phrase in both an H1 header and H2 Sub header. How To Design Your Web Page For Top Search Engine Rankings

October 24th, 2009

When thinking about search engine optimization and where to begin, think about on-page optimization. Although off-page optimization is essential for improving your Google rankings, on-page techniques can be used to build a strong SEO foundation and support good results on Yahoo!, MSN, and other major search portals.

Below are a few helpful search engine optimization strategies you can use right now to make your web site more accessible to search engines and as a result, improve your search engine rankings.

Optimize Your Website URL. If you have not yet picked a domain name for your website, do not try to purchase yourkeyword.com. Rather, pick a name that will be memorable and is something you want to build your company or brand around. You do not want to limit your options too severely. That said do try to include your main broad keyword into your URL.

Optimize Your Page Title, H1 and H2 Tags. Create a title that is relevant to your site content and which is no more that 60 characters in length. The reason you want to limit the size of your title is because larger titles cannot be fully displayed on search engine results pages. The reason why the title is so important is because it gives you an opportunity to display your keywords first.

The first headline that appears on your site should include your most important keywords. It is best to have your title display with an H1 tag. An H1 tag provides emphasis and signals each search engine that you deem the content as important. Other titles on your web page should be displayed using an H2 or H3 tag, indicated once again, the importance of the keywords being used.

Optimize Your Meta Tags. Search engine optimization experts debate the value of meta tags for search engine ranking enhancement. I can tell you that meta tags include a variety of tags including title, description, and keywords. Even though meta tags are less important that it was many years ago, it still plays an important role in optimization.

Search engines use meta tags as a reference for search engine crawlers that view your website content. Your meta tags need to be correlated to your content and also include your keyword phrases. Doing so creates consistency, something that search engine spiders weigh heavily when determining website rankings. Make sure you fully develop your description and keywords.

Optimize your keyword density for Google. Creating a keyword rich content page is essential but do not get carried away. Your keyword density should be around 3 or 4 percent, no more. Some people believe that you could go as high as six percent for Yahoo! optimization but Google seems to like pages that have a smaller keyword density. From my perspective you are better off focusing on the placement of your keywords and the type of emphasis you provide. Remember to focus on H1 and H2 tags and place keywords at the beginning, middle, and end of your web page. In addition you should have an instance of each keyword phrase in bold, italics, and underlined. This variety again reinforces the value of your links.

Keyword Variation. The last piece to focus on is keyword variety. Instead of stuffing your page with the same keyword phrases again and again, use some variety. A great way to do this is to add a word or two before your keyword phrase and after it. Creating variety is important because it shows each search engine that your site has a focus but that you are not intentionally trying to improve your ranking.

The most important part of any search engine optimization campaign is to make your site appear natural, present valuable content, and follow on-page optimization best practices. If you use the above suggestions as a guide, you will be well on your way to a fully optimized website.
