Using Individual Dental Plans To Insure Dental Health

September 25th, 2009

How long has it been since you have been to the dentist? For most people, it has been too long. Persons without dental insurance often simply ignore tooth problems and do not go to the dentist. Individual dental plans help to keep us on track with our dental care.

Without insurance, dental care can cost more than we can afford. Most people do not know that they can buy dental insurance at a fairly low price, especially when compared to the cost of dental care.

Discount Dental Plans Are The Affordable Alternative To Dental Insurance

Even individual dental plans often pay for one hundred percent of preventative dental care costs. Pay for the insurance and they will pay for all of your cleaning and exam needs. After a specified time, they will pay a large percentage of normal dental work such as fillings, extractions or x-rays. They usually pay about half of major dental work even dentures.

By purchasing a dental plan, you are more likely to go to the dentist on a regular basis. By having regular exams and cleanings, your dentist can spot a problem before it becomes a big problem. If there is a cavity, it can be filled before you need a root canal.

If you plan to keep your natural teeth all of your life, it is important that you have regular dental care. Only your natural teeth provide the proper biting, chewing and grinding action needed for good digestion.

You may still have to pay a small co-pay with individual dental plans, but your dentist will bill the insurance company for the remainder of the cost of your dental work. If you dentist bills directly, it saves you the trouble of waiting for a reimbursement of dental costs.

Check with the plan that you are about to choose to be sure you can continue to use your own dentist. If you will be required to change to a different dentist to use the plan, then you might want to consider choosing another plan that allows you to continue with the dentist with whom you already have an established relationship.

Most of the time when we buy insurance, we never want to use it. Who wants their life insurance policy to pay out tomorrow? Who wants their auto insurance to have to pay for an accident that you cause? Dental insurance is different. With dental insurance, you should use the policy at least every six months to have a regular checkup. Your out of pocket expense may only be a ten-dollar co-pay. This preventative care can keep you from a lot of pain and suffering in the future.
