Green Ideas That Work To Increase A Family’s Financial Green In This Economy Crisis
Most of us don’t link protecting the environment with protecting our finances. But, the reality is that there is some correlation between the two. In fact, even though we are in a global economy crisis, we can actually save lots of money by making our lives more environmentally friendly and following these simple little tips:
Give your clothes some “hang” time during this economy crisis. Many people that have space around their home can put up a clothesline outside where they can hang up and dry their clothing. If you are a bit squeamish about your clothing hanging out for all to see, then consider putting up a clothesline inside, either in a garage or even a retractable one in the shower or bathroom. The tools and clothesline that you need, you can buy for cheap at a dollar store or discount retailer.
If you don’t do a lot of drying with your electric dryer, just hanging your clothing up could greatly reduce the amount of money that you spend each month running the dryer. Clothes are almost dry when they come out of the washing machine anyway. So, hang them up and save some money.
Don’t drive everywhere unless you absolutely have to. Get out and walk, run, or ride a bike to the places that you need to go and save money by reducing the amount of gas that your family needs during the week. It’s been a little difficult developing a family gas budget recently with the constant fluctuation in fuel prices, so by minimizing your family’s dependence on gas, you could really see a significant financial saving.
The emissions that you save the planet is as important as the finances that your family will save. To be honest, your family will see a savings almost immediately, especially if you have a larger vehicle. When the vehicle is larger it requires more gas, which is more money spent on fuel, and a higher gas budget. Eliminate the need to research or drive around trying to find gas that you can buy for cheap by using your “pedal power”.
Recycle and reuse the basics like store shopping bags. Use them for your regular household trash and garbage. Don’t worry about doing all of that shopping for garbage bags, just use those. Some say that we should use canvas bags. That’s fine also, but surely we need to dispose of our regular trash and those bags are perfect for that! They’re free, so you don’t even have to try to buy for cheap, just shop and reuse to save your family a few dollars.
Another fantastic item to reuse is newspaper. We get them as circulars in our mailboxes and we even buy them from time to time. They are perfect for cleaning windows, instead of using those name brand cleaning wipes. They can also be used for packing stuff and, even for helping to absorb stinky shoe and suitcase odors. A little crumpled newspaper can go a long way. During this economy crisis, we all need to find alternative uses for things.
Going green help our environment, but it can also help your family’s budget. During this economy crisis, think of ways that you can save and get creative about it. We all need to finds ways to buy for cheap and to get even more out of what we use. Don’t be afraid to research and experiment. In the end, the money that you save and knowing that you have done something for the environment will make you and your family very happy and personally satisfied.
